Ben claims that Thomas is the true criminal and needs to be punished, though Thomas is not sure for what. Ben later attacks Thomas in the graveyard and is struck by Alby's arrow. He learns that Ben has been stung by a Griever. BenĪ pale, thin boy who Thomas first hears screaming from the wooden building. Chuck gives his life to save Thomas from Gally's knife. Thomas takes it upon himself to ensure that Chuck gets out of the Maze and is reunited with his family. He is talkative, innocent and naive, and though he is also annoying at times Thomas comes to see Chuck as a friend and even as a sort of younger brother. Chuck is awkward and one of the youngest Gladers. ChuckĪ chubby boy who is assigned to be Thomas's guide on his first night in the Glade. As Alby's leadership begins to erode, Newt steps in to fill the gap and support Thomas's plans to escape. Sarcastic and direct, Newt befriends Thomas early on and spends time explaining the way the Glade and Maze work to him. Named after Sir Isaac Newton, Newt is a tall, muscular boy with long blonde hair who operates as second in command in the Glade. Alby dies during the escape attempt by throwing himself onto a Griever. He wishes to stay in the Glade and even tries to sabotage an escape plan by burning the maps drawn by the Runners. After being stung by a Griever, Alby undergoes the Changing and becomes convinced that they should not return to the outside world. Only a few Gladers, those who have been there the longest like Minho, ever see fit to question Alby's decisions. The leader of the Gladers, Alby has authority over much of what goes on in the Glade. Soon after arriving in the Glade, Thomas makes both friends and enemies and proves a leader among the boys. Thomas proves to be brave, loyal, and clever, with isolated telepathic powers and a very limited memory of previous knowledge of the Maze. He only remembers his name and nothing else about his life. He arrives in the Glade with no knowledge of who he is or was. I could spend days pointing out why the hunger games is better but this is getting way too long and I'd like people to read this. The protagonist of the story. and I could feel something for the characters now, while the maze runner characters felt lifeless and just robots. the maze was interesting, but the arenas make me speechless, and mostly the arena of the quarter quell. I almost gave up on reading but I tried a second time and wow it was so awesome and I couldn't put the books down. The hunger games was a tough book to read when I first picked it to read. There are countless pages where nothing happens and I felt no connection to any of the characters. Dashner has a tiring narrative and a very slow plot. Thomas was frustrating throughout the complete series and I like that the books are narrated in the third person because honestly, I don't know if I could keep reading from Thomas narrative. the first chapters got me hooked but after it was just a huge mess. The maze runner was a tough book to read. So, in the end, The Maze Runner is the choice I would pick at a heartbeat. As for The Hunger Games, I actually remember movie more than I do remember the books itself, so I'm pretty sure I'll just forgot about The Hunger Games novels. The Maze Runner series are the series that I probably will remember for a long while. As I discussed with one of my co-worker, she mentioned the author seems to be writing for a much younger audience, so that could be why the kill/dead scenes were so weak. Every time the character was killed off, it was done too fast before I even realize that character is actually dead and we're already moving on to third or fourth scenes ahead of the death scene. The Hunger Games.I had no feeling when I finished the book. I was such a emotional wreck when I read The Maze Runner series. The Maze Runner, on other hand, are better with the character development and providing a deep emotion from each character even the minor ones. The Hunger Games are better at the world building and the plots. I just finished The Hunger Games trilogy (Final book last night) and I vote The Maze Runner.
